Shocker – Nokia announces Bluetooth File Transfer support for current generation Lumia phones – coming soon!

Holy crap. This is probably the best news of the day! I cannot tell you how happy I and millions of Windows Phone users will be today. From day 1 Windows Phone users have been asking Microsoft for Bluetooth file transfer but guess who came to our rescue? Nokia. Nokia Conversation, official Nokia blog, listed a couple of new features that will be coming to current generation Lumia device. Here’s the list

A new Start screen look and feel, familiar from Windows Phone 8, giving you a whole new look the moment you unlock your phone

  • Ringtone maker app to selected markets to create a personal ringtone
  • Contact share app updated to support sharing over Bluetooth in addition to SMS and email
  • Bluetooth file transfer to send media files via Bluetooth from your Lumia device to any other phone

You have no idea how happy I am right now. This is exactly what Nokia needs right now. Especially after the fakeview disaster. I along with several blogs have been ranting about how Bluetooth FTP has stopped people from buying a Windows Phone and instead end up opting for Android. Bluetooth file transfer is still widely used, especially in Asia, so this will create an immensely positive effect on the outlook of the whole OS in my opinion. This is a huge positive step forward.

If you are doubting the demand of Bluetooth FTP during the times of cloud computing – more than 2k + 4k feature request votes should change your mind: Uservoice 1/ Uservoice 2  Yes this has been THE most requested feature by far.

Thank you Nokia, you better comprehend how big this is for you and get us more Lumia 610 like devices to the market ASAP. What remains to be seen is how Windows Phone 8 going to handle Bluetooth transfer. What we know is that there is an updated Bluetooth stack and hopefully – non Nokia WP8 users will get the full Bluetooth experience.

    for the info

Sorry, but this Article is a SHOCKER and “holy crap”.
How can you say that “millions of others” were waiting for Bluetooth File transport options? I don’t know even one who’s anxiously waiting for it. Ja, it’s a nice to have, but in times of WiFi and personal hot spots … who really needs it?
Also why would Bluetooth File transport be “especially” used in Asia and not in other parts of the world? Either name facts, or leave it out.

And, of course you’re finding references in the web for this, just like you find references for every other argument to (not) buy product XYZ. Just google “I’d eat shit if” and you’ll find thousands of hits. Now is that a reason to blog that millions would eat shit and they only waited for me to go to toilet this morning?

Sorry, no. This is not a killer feature, it’s just a piece in the big puzzle Nokia is working on. Nokia’s on the right track, for sure, but no serious kiddie nor business man would say “I’m going for a Lumia because I can send files via Bluetooth”.

Also, try to write your articles without permanently referring to you and your higher state of consciousness because of this feature. That would make the article look much more professional.

Fairly simple to answer your question. Where are you from?

      • ThEi

Man, you’re not talking to a couch potato, believe me. Let’s take a look at the 3G coverage in India (the region you like most to refer to): http://telecomblogs.in/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/3G-Map.jpg
        Looks quite good.

Then let’s take a look at the forecast:
“Global mobile phone industry body GSM Association today said 3G
connections in India are expected to grow to more than 100 million by
2014 — the highest in the world.”

        Source: http://www.defence.pk/forums/world-affairs/170421-india-second-largest-mobile-broadband-market.html#ixzz26Fkddux6

Also not that bad being “the highest in the world”

Now what else do you want me to research?

        • http://www.wpsauce.com weemundo

You are hilarious. You link a Pakistani forum for it? A simple google search would have brought along a ton of legit news websites covering it. I am definitely talking to a couch potato.
Let me give you a bit of an heads up on this: People use Bluetooth filetransfer for music, movies, media, etc. India has extremely high piracy rate. Got data to prove otherwise?
3G is mostly used to download apps, chatting and browsing here. and music isn’t free. 3G is extremely costly here. I personally haven’t switched yet. Even broadband is expensive here. 3G streaming music is impossible for most of the people. So people tend to use BT – mostly limited to school and college students. What percentage of Indians are on cloud or stream to their mobile daily? Got data for that? Compare it with no. of mobile users with or without 3G.
You think only people in India use Bluetooth file transfer? You have no idea what you are talking about. Now Google more stuff from your couch and come back at me, it seems like being ignorant is the only thing you like doing at this moment.

          • ThEi

It seems like being ignorant to simply say “It is like it is” and “google it” without naming sources. Not that kind of professional journalism I prefer…

Also, it is ignorant from your end to only focus your News on the Indian/Asian market. How many News have you posted that are specific to the European market? How many weehaaa-postings?
Start opening your mind before bashing on others!

          • http://www.wpsauce.com weemundo

We have editors from China, Europe and US and we write about whatever the hell we want. We publish all kind of stuff. I write a lot about India. What is the problem with that? You are free to go to another blog to read about European news. I am NOT a journalist. where does it say that? We are just bunch of people who love Windows Phone and write about it. Simple.

          • ThEi

OK, so I read that becoming more professional in your writing is not one of your goals. That’s fair. Then in future I know what to think of your “News” and how to handle them. Thanks

          • http://www.wpsauce.com weemundo

I never said being more professional is not my goal. What I said is that we do more than just “news”. If you want PR like stuff – go read PR, seriously. Or a newspaper website – they are paid to write like monotonous bots. If you doubt the legitimacy of our news or posts – then feel free to check our rumor bingo meter, we are mostly right about rumors and stuff.

          • http://twitter.com/RepublicofAsh Ash

Man your ego is through the roof and you’re as unprofessional as they come. First up, the article is complete and utter BS. Second, you’re bashin your reader, virtually asking him to fuck off just because he doesn’t feel the same way you feel about Bluetooth. (btw he’s damn right, nobody gives a flying fuck about Bluetooth anymore. I’ve been using a smartphone since 2009, first an iPhone and now the Lumia 800 and I’m still a virgin when it comes to BT transfers.)

Excuse my digression, so the fact is this might be a BIG deal for YOU or your 5 friends. But to the larger part of the market this DOES NOT MATTER. BT file transfers are a niche and businesses like Microsoft don’t give a rat’s ass about some ghetto town in India where there’s no 3G/broadband because quite literally there’s no freaking leverage in doing so.

          • http://www.wpsauce.com weemundo
          • http://twitter.com/RepublicofAsh Ash

“Now we know why Indians get their ass kicked in UK. Stay there, please.” Enlighten me, please.

Oh and btw the larger part of the market doesn’t even know about some site called windowsphone.com and that you can submit feature requests there so although I appreciate your effort yet your argument is moot. You’re a nerd, what you reckon obvious & quintessential, might be trivial to consumers. Please spend some time actually reading what people are posting.

          • http://www.wpsauce.com weemundo

You do not submit feature requests at windowsphone.com. Please stop embarrassing yourself. I don’t need Bluetooth, personally. I talk to retailers, developers and consumers every day – I tell you what I know. Did you even care to read the darn link? You think bluetooth demand is my own creation? No mood to deal with another person who has no idea of what’s going on.

          • http://twitter.com/RepublicofAsh Ash

Oh sorry Mr. Pedant, I forgot to give you the entire link. Looks like you can’t deal with abstraction. I’ll have you know that I upvoted that request weeks ago, thanks to my BT speakers acting wonky lately.

I think either you’re a stupid fuck or you’re just bad at comprehension so I’ll spell it out for you, don’t worry. What I and the other guy has been trying to say is that BT file transfers are not something consumers look forward to while they are making a purchase decision. You talk to retailers, I’ve fucking worked at an Orange store, and 90% of the people only care about price, size and WiFi. Heck, most of them don’t even know or care about Bluetooth.

Now catering to your impeccable imbecility, I got an article for you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem

This is the first comment where I attacked YOU instead of YOUR ARGUMENT and the reason is because you’re a pathetic, cockjuggling, keyboard warrior. You think you know me just because you saw my Twitter. Well fuck off you racist snot, you don’t know shit about me, or who am I, or what I’ve done. You got no damn clue. If you got nothing to add to the conversation or counter my premise, then can’t you just say “ok mate, i think you may be right/wrong. but i’m not sure either. We’ll see.” or something like that. You’re an illiterate piece of shit, you bloody Indian. Shut the fuck up and get over yourself. Ciao

          • http://www.wpsauce.com weemundo

Like I said before, I am talking from Indian perspective. How hard is that to understand for your tiny stupid fucking brain? I don’t give a fuck where you work. Nobody does. I say in the article that people in Asia do care. Where the hell did I say people in any place except Asia give a fuck? How about you fucking read shithead?

    • Gunther Ham

Listen. I dont know where you live but here in our country (yes, it is in Africa) there aren’t WiFi hotspots everywhere. I just bought my wife a Lumia 710 and am hugely dissapointed to find out that I cannot even send her a bloody picture of my daughter from my (properly thought out) Galaxy S3 via bluetooth in our kitchen.

It feels like she’s gone backwards from her Nokia E5 which is 2 years old for crying out loud. Whilst you may have wireless broadband in your bathroom doesn’t mean the rest of the world has. The Lumia is a huge dissapointment and I realised the same day that I made a mistake not buying her a Galaxy Ace instead. No wonder Nokia is bankrupt. Serves them right.

  • maddy

Bluetooth is required.how many of us use the WIFI to transfer a file???? many many people still use Bluetooth to share files (pls dont be ignorant)…. how can u transfer files from an IOS device or a WP device to other device running on other platform???? is this (bluetooth ftp) got somethign to do with licensing (can only open source OS use this)?? if anyone has knowledge, pls answer…

    • http://twitter.com/RepublicofAsh Ash

Bluetooth is a proprietary open source technology, which in English means you can use it anywhere you want. It’s not just restricted to open source OSes.

  • Urvansh

    That’s Cool!!!

  • Joyce

Well that’s great news! So when and how can I get the freakin’ stuff?

  • SDKDev

Really nice to hear about it.. @AshBrownies:disqus @94c953d592634c5a4ff88ceb73ac04bc:disqus you dont know anything about people in the world. Everyone does not have access to Wi-fi or 3G all the time like you(might be very rich to afford). If you cannot appreciate anyone’s work, atleast do not disgrace it.

    Good luck and thanks @weemundo:disqus

    • Ash

Well, buddy, here’s the thing. The article has a global tone to it claiming that everybody was holding their breath for Bluetooth FT to debut on WP. The reality begs to differ. Maybe people in India are, no problem with that, total respect, but then don’t make sweeping, bigheaded statements like “From day 1 Windows Phone users have been asking Microsoft for Bluetooth file transfer”. In his post, he talks like fuckin’ Pope of the Windows Phone universe, and in the comments he’s assuming the “it’s my opinion, i’m talking about In-fuckin-dia” stance. Well, no shit, it’s your opinion. You can’t read other people’s minds.

That being said, @weemundo:disqus is a highly unprofessional, egotistical retard, and your “If you can’t appreciate, shut up” attitude is exactly what’s wrong with Indians. You and your huge egos. You either want people to suck your dick, or gtfo. No place for a discussion which calls out your bullshit, because hey if you can’t appreciate something, at least don’t disgrace it. Keep shovelin’, bro!

      • Ash

One more thing @weemundo:disqus, it wasn’t like I was gonna frequent your blog anyways, but by blocking my IP you kinda made it certain that I won’t. I’m sorry I’m not the cocksucker kind. Go fuck yourself!
