A whole bunch of possible new Windows Phone 8 devices discovered

WPDang just got some really interesting server log from the developers behind popular lockscreen wallpaper app Love Wallpaper HD. Among the user visits, they dug out some funny device names that certainly none of us is using right now.

Among the devices, there are names already familiar to us, like Nokia Fluid, Nokia Phi, Juggernaut Alpha. And there are funny records just named “Virtual”, which should point to SDK emulators. Besides those, they’ve got a few rather interesting names: Nokia P4301, Nokia Dogphone, and Samsung SGH-i687.

It’s noted that all the above devices, including those already recognized as Windows Phone 8 prototypes, are all registered as “WP7″ OS in Love Wallpaper HD’s server log, and share a unified screen resolution of 800×480. We guess those mysterious devices must be running a compatibility mode or something. We know Microsoft is about to release Windows Phone 8 SDK just in a few more days. Intense compatibility testing from OEMs is natural.

What? You say “how do you know they are not just running plain Windows Phone 7″? Well, we know because of the OS version number. All of them are over ver. 8.0, ranging from 8.0.9682.0 all the way to 8.0.10119.0. These just have to be Windows Phone 8.
