Nokia and Carl Zeiss joined hands back in 2005 creating revolotionary camera phones (like the N90). Recent camera phones with Carl Zeiss Optics include the incredible Nokia N8 and the undisputed monster in the camera department the Nokia 808 PureView. Reuters is reporting that Carl Zeiss and Nokia have extended their 7 year long partnership and this will fuel more products from partnership of both in the companies. In short, more PureView brilliance will be coming to Nokia devices in future.
Michael Kaschke, CEO, Carl Zeiss AG:
”When joining forces with Nokia in 2005, we wanted to push the boundaries of mobile photography. Looking back at seven years of successful partnership, we are proud of the innovations and outstanding products created in this shared journey. Today we are celebrating the extension of our collaboration with a new technology that sets another real benchmark in this sector.”
Jo Harlow, VP of Nokia Smart Devices on the extension:
“Carl Zeiss was a crucial partner in the creation of the first PureView experience,” said Jo Harlow, executive vice president of Nokia Smart Devices. “The benefits of our ongoing collaboration will be more PureView innovation and further advancements in smartphone imaging in the coming months and years.”
Nokia and Carl Zeiss partnership extension is extremely cruical. Nokia started a trend of doing partnership with a company that specializes in one particular technology and later incorporating them to their existing technologies (HTC and Beats partnership is the latest one). Nokia needs to differentiate itself from other OEMs. Camera is where Nokia has been strong since the early smartphone days but now you have Apple, Samsung and more importantly HTC taking big strides in camera technology. Nokia needs more than just one PureView. Nokia + Windows Phone 8 + PureView technology. Make it happen, Nokia.
