A hurdle on Windows Phone for business users was lack of a dedicated Lync mobile client at launch last year. Microsoft announced earlier this year that Lync was arriving on Windows Phone in Q4 of 2011. And Microsoft hasn’t disappointed. It’s Q4, it’s 2011, and Lync is live! For those that don’t know what Lync is specifically, Lync is a form of communication that gives you a virtual connection between you and your corworkers. Yeah, it may sound like a simple IM protocol, but take a look at the extended features:
- View colleagues’ availability in real time and select the best method of communication (IM, email, or call)
- Connect to Lync conference calls without a long numeric passcode
- Make and receive calls using your Enterprise Voice number only, so you can connect with others using a single, consistent identity
- Other features
Granted, I am not a business user, but I must say, the added functionality that Lync provides is almost a requirement for productivity in a career. Remember, Lync 2010 needs a Lync Server or Office 365/Lync online account for the app to work. If you have both, take the plunge and let us know how you like or dislike it in the comments below!
